Zak and Lindsey chose to get married in St Peters Church in the centre of Sandwich, with their reception in St Mary’s Art Centre, and I was very pleased when they chose me to be their Kent Wedding Photographer. St Peters Church, Sandwich, and St Mary’s Art Centre are both beautiful buildings, steeped in local history, and are the perfect backdrop to a Kent Wedding.
Zak and Lindsey decided on a home-made wedding, and arranging and setting up the wedding was very much a family and friends affair, with all the decoration of the church and the reception being done by them and their family and friends – they even had me laying up tables the day before! I’m glad to say that all the handmade bunting had already been hung in St Mary’s before I got there – just the stories of the extra tall ladders used for the job was enough to give me vertigo – I really don’t do heights very well!
The morning of the wedding dawned bright but still a little fresh for May, but the sun put in an appearance and we managed to avoid any rain, so all was good.
Although Lindsey and Zak hadn’t managed to fit a pre-wedding shoot in prior to their wedding, we had talked about the photography, and what they were hoping to get from the day. The photos were clearly important to them both – to Zak with his graphic design background, and to Lindsey who is currently completing her photography degree course in London. I was so pleased to learn that they were both very keen to invest the extra time between their ceremony and their reception to take a walk through Sandwich and create some magical images of their day, and I think you’ll agree we managed to achieve that.
Lindsey and Zak’s whole day was beautiful, full of love, and lots of laughter, and several emotion choked moments too. I loved the moment when Lindsey walked up the aisle and saw her teary eyed groom for the first time – just beautiful. They chose to write their own vows, both completely from the heart, – loving, funny and emotion filled – there were more than a few wet eyes amongst the congregation at that point, mine included I have to admit – It is a powerful thing when you see two people so perfectly matched and so very in love as these two clearly are.
And then there was the laughter, the fun, & the crazy moments – Lindsey with 3 sisters and Zak with a twin brother – and all let loose on the speeches! I can honestly say I have never heard a best man’s speech as funny as Zak’s twin brother Aaron’s – we laughed until we hurt with it and couldn’t see for the tears rolling down our faces – the photos will give you just a little idea of the utter hilarity!
